    Low-cost motion capture system

    This capture system is full-featured, for example, it can capture body movement, facial expression, two or more figures, hands, figure with arms, quadrupeds or rigid motion, indoors or outdoors. As a standard off-line optical capture system, it takes only a few minutes to calibrate, much quicker than the calibration of large systems.     High fidelity facial expressions work flow of system

    A self-made hardware facial expression capture helmet, the above full-functional motion capture system, an efficient facial expression assembly system named Softimage FaceRobot and some other software-associated auxiliary tools are synthesized to be a super-real human facial expression production line process through a corresponding method we developed. This system can be applied freely in games or movies. Take the real facial expression animation project of one person for the first minute as example, it takes 4 hours to finish from the model head to assembly and debugging and 2 hours to capture facial expression data and apply it to FaceRobot head for captured data adjustment. As needed, for games, it may be adjusted directly to taking about 4 hours to finish the output to the game engine. For movies, some auxiliary tools are needed to assist the adjustment. It may take 8 to 16 hours to finish the high detail facial expression match technology and the output to 3dmax and maya. The whole task is completed. This is, of course, an example of ours and the numbers of time are rough for reference only. The specific time may vary with the sophistication of facial expression motion and the work schedule and proficiency of each individual. Some may be quicker while others may be slower. In spite of all, under the premise of guaranteeing a high quality facial expression animation, this work process is of high production efficiency. What’s more important, for projects with high requirements, it can make real human facial expression without requiring hundreds of thousands of, or millions of, global illuminating 3D Scanner systems or Vcion and motionAnalysis large capture systems. It also makes it possible for individual or small studios to finish high-end facial expression projects at movie level. : )
